Auto Insurance - How to Save Money With Teenage Drivers

By Dennis Montgomery

If you have soon-to-be-driving teenagers and haven't seen what that can do to your auto insurance rates...be prepared for massive shock. Premiums can go through the roof in many cases. It doesn't always have to be that way though if you know how to save the most amount of money possible. Here's a look at some tips to help you along the way.

No one wants to pay more for anything than they have to and car insurance is no different. One of the best ways to save more money on insurance premiums is to shop around. Now I don't mean getting one or two rate quotes and calling it a day. In order to save a lot of money you are going to need to get a lot of different quotes.

The best way to accomplish that is to go online. Getting an online auto insurance quote is easy. There are hundreds of car insurance websites to choose from. Plan on getting quotes from at least 10 different companies. You may be surprised at the vast difference in rates. It will also not take that long to do it either.

Next, be sure to take advantage of the discounts that will be available. Many companies offer a 5-10% discount for taking drivers education classes. One of the best discounts that nearly every insurance company has is the good grades discount. See, it pays to get good grades!

You also will get a nice discount if you have more than one car insured with the same company. A multi-car discount of 10-25% applies. This can go a long way in keeping rates as low as possible.

Finally, be careful in what type of car your teenager is going to be adding to your insurance program. Yes, a Corvette is cool but you don't even want to think about how much it will cost to insure. I think you get the picture here.

Although you can expect your rates to jump, by knowing what discounts are available and putting them to use, you will go a long way in keeping your auto insurance rates as low as possible.
